TEACHING PROCEDURE

The Undergraduate Program in English and Translation, Gradate Program in Culture, Communication and Translation are based on the notion that these fields require thorough grounding in contemporary linguistics, language and culture, theory and practice of translation, etc. The core subjects include “Reading and Writing”, “Listening and Speaking”, “Phonetics”, “Practical and theoretical grammar”, “Applied linguistics”, “Theory and methods of language teaching”, “Stylistics”, “Lexicology”, “Old English”, “Anglo-American literature”, “Foreign literature”, “Russian and Armenian Literature”, etc. The translation courses concentrate on the development of general translation skills in specialist fields.
Due attention is given to auditoriums meant for listening activitiesand watching movies with anobjective to promote students’ intonation, pronunciation, enlarge word-stock and enhance communicating skills. “Listening and Speaking” course covers both curricula and extra-curriculaactivities.
Moreover, students are given a unique chance to deepen their computer skills, surf the Internet, investigate and perform thorough research works. Library with multilingual resource data is also available to anyone.
In addition to core courses in English, linguistics and translation studies, students in these programs are required to take courses in the theory and methods of language teaching and teach in a supervised practicum in local school (School after Charents N 67), or take practical experience of translation and interpretation in Arminfo, Armenpress institutions, as well as in Ministry of Diaspora.
