Yerevan Gladzor University, previously Gladzor Management University is one of the pioneer private universities adopting completely new principles, quality and values in the sphere of education.
General Law Department of Yerevan Gladzor University was founded in 1990 greatly contributed by Artzrun G. Edilyan, chairing the Department from 1993-1996.
Since its foundation the Department had the following subdivisions: State System Subjects Faculty was directed by Henrik M. Khachatryan, PhD in Law, Assistant Professor, 1991-1993. Science of Crime Detection Faculty was headed by Robert Z. Avagyan, PhD in Law, Assistant Professor. General Law Department was founded by Artzrun G. Edilyan in 1993 supported by Gurgen H. Ayvazyan, PhD in Law, Assistant Professor and Michael V. Grigoryan, PhD in Law, Assistant Professor, heading the Department from 2001-2002.
Currently, the Head of the Department is Zhora D. Jhangiryan, Doctor/Professor of Law. The Faculty has set the following objectives: to prepare highly qualified specialists and responsible citizens. It is worth mentioning that seven lecturers of eighteen-member staff are Yerevan Gladzor University Graduates – H. Tovmasyan, PhD in Law, N. Solomonyan, PhD in Law, N. Alexsanyan, PhD in Law, K. Abrahamyan, PhD in Law, H. Stepanyan, PhD in Law, A. Tanayan and A. Zohrabyan. The Graduates are engaged in a wide-variety of activities as positions in governmental and non-governmental structures. It is due mentioning that three of them are prominent judies.
In 2004-2005, like the whole University, the faculty adopted the three-degree system։ Bachelor, Master and Doctorial Courses. BA is four years, MA and Doctorial Courses - two years.
Since 2007-2008 academic years Faculty of Law provides also 5-year extra-mural courses.
Presently, 5 students of the Faculty are taking their Post-Graduate studies along with other University Applicants.
Since 2007-2008 the Department has passed to a new and effective grading system, accordingly, up-dated syllabuses are discussed and assured at Faculty Sessions. Overall, during its twenty-year subsistence the Department has 771 graduates.
The personnel of the Department represent not only a wide range of professional experience in humanities and social sciences, but also undertake scientific research works, monographs. Besides, in annual conferences university professionals present a series of articles, hereby published in journals authorized by Yerevan Gladzor University. See the list of publications.
Tuition
Bachelor Degree Curriculum consists of the following subjects divided into humanities, social-economic, principal and elective courses, as Philosophy, Cultural Studies, Sociology, General and Legal Psychology, Moral Philosophy, Armenian History, Political Science, Economics, Logics, First Medical Aid, Clerical Work, the Armenian Issue and International Diplomacy, Physical Training, etc.
Due attention is paid to foreign languages - Russian, English, French, German, Latin, as well to Computer Studies. The core courses are Theory and History of State and Law, Constitutional Law, Civil Law, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Criminology, European and International Law, Judicial Psychotherapy, etc.
In the Faculty of Law presently operated teaching methods and approaches are of great diversity, including lectures, visual materials, implemented cooperative learning in the classroom and tests. Research works and individual works are compulsory and effective techniques improving students’ analytical thinking and writing skills. Works deserving high marks later are awarded in Students’ Scientific Sessions. Students are evaluated through mid-term and final tests/examinations.
University Library is loaded with a great range of literature broadening their minds. Along with Phonetic Laboratories improve their speaking skills, Computer Halls and Electronic Library provide them with free use of Internet resource data, thus preparing skilled specialists.
Practicum forms an obligatory part in the academic process giving the students an opportunity to gather experience in judicial sphere to evaluate their skills and enhance competence in Jurisprudence. In the scopes of Practicum they witness how the judicial system works in the following institutions: RA Prosecution Branches, Constitutional Court, the Bars, Ministry of Justice, National Assembly and Police Stations. Students are supervised by specialists directing their work, and then assess their participation.
Bachelor students graduate taking the following exams: Theory and History of State and Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law, European and International Law. Advanced students have an opportunity to write diploma works taking only one final exam - Theory and History of State and Law.
Master’s Degree students pursue the study of one area in depth through further course work and thesis research.
