"Gladzor" is considered to be one of the famous universities of Middle Ages inArmenia. It was founded in thevillage Gladzor, Vayots Dzor, in 1291. The University functioned till 1340.
"Gladzor" was a powerful university with its regular internal rules. It was characterized as a university of social sciences. Theology, philosophy, arithmetic’s, astronomy, etc. were being taught there. Education lasted 7-8 years. The University had special, fixed system of examinations as well as scientific and academic rank-awarding chair. This remarkable religious, scientific and educational centre trained both teachers and scientists. The 700th anniversary of the University wascelebrated in Armenia in 1984.
Restoring and continuing traditions of the magnificent university of the middle ages, Zhora Jhangiryanundertookthe establishment of Gladzor Management University.
In 1990 the University started to function, in order to support higher education and itsdevelopment in RA, in theregions and in diaspora.
Initially, having only a small group of students, the University has now 1300 students not only fromArmenia, but from other countries as well.
On July 25, 2001, the University was accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science of RA. Students are provided with programs that correspond to international standards.
THE HISTORY
“Gladzor” Management University, founded in 1990, was amongst those few higher education institutions confronting challenges of educating an entire nation. Its primary objective was to emerge as a worthy heir of the historical Gladzor with its high-level education, qualified teaching staff, rich academic curriculums, and scientific potential. Within last 20 years the administrative board, teaching staff, whole personnel have set an aim at carrying out an academic procedure of international rank.
Yerevan “Gladzor” University employs an academic personnel armed with huge experience and knowledge, and at present due to their efforts “Gladzor” holds its praiseworthy position in the higher educational system of Armenia. Currently, the university provides valuable education to over 1300 students.
Since 2000 “Gladzor” is housed in a newly constructed building supplied with all modern conveniences. On July 25, 2001, the university was accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science.
In 2005 autumn “Gladzor” University was awarded a gold medal of “High Quality in Performance” in the 9th international conference - “High Quality in Business”, in Geneva, as well as a certificate to cooperate with the Fund Declaration.
Since 2006-2007 “Gladzor” has adopted a new academic program based on credit system of providing education and assessment. To endow with this procedure the “Centre of Educational Improvements” was started contributing to create required normative base for coordinating the process of credit system.
“Gladzor” University alumnus hold far high posts in legal bodies as the Constitutional Court, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Banking system, Publishing houses, TV/Radio companies, schools, etc.
The University Academic Board employs as well “Gladzor” Post-graduates among them 18 lecturers obtaining PhD in a wide scope of specialties. The University carries out active work in the field of publishing coarse-books, methodological materials, monographs, annual scientific articles (in 4 volumes till now).
“Gladzor” University equipped with up-to-date technology gives students an enormous chance to fulfill academic and scientific work, and do pastime activities. Rich Library, Phonetic Halls, the Internet Access /24hours/ are available to any student any time.
Presently, the University has a right to organize and discuss dissertation theses, later confirm the supervisors. “Gladzor” comprises of university program, secondary/high schools, Master’s and Post-graduate programs.
MONTHLY NEWSPAPER
The students' monthly "New Gladzor" has been founded by the undertaking of the University founder-rector Zhora Jhangiryan in 1996. Being the official paper of the very University the "New Gladzor" aims at assisting the study process, illustrating the students' life. The newspaper successfully reveals the students' creative abilities at the Department of Journalism and supports their professional skills. Different professors and talented students of the journalistic and other departments contribute the monthly with various interesting articles. The frame of the readers is wide-ranging: "gladzorians", students of other Universities, visitors of the National Library, scholars and members of the Writer's Union of Armenia. It is one of the most popular and mostly read among the other University student papers. It has expressive headlines: "University movement", "Hall of solemnities", "Students examine", "Professors in the eyes of students", "Love age", "To laugh or to cry", ect.
The University carries out active work in the field of publishing coarse-books, methodological materials, monographs, annual scientific articles (in 4 volumes till now).
